In recent years the Convention has been electing 2 undergraduate members to advise the Executive Council and help keep the leadership of undergraduate chapters engaged in the work of the Fraternity. This year the 176th Psi Upsilon Convention elected Joey Cobau, Phi ’21 (Michigan) and Wes Cantrall, Phi Delta ’20 (Mary Washington) to serve in these positions.

In this position they are invited to all meetings of the Executive Council and also placed on one committee, all travel and hospitality expenses are paid for the International Office to facilitate their participation.

The 2019 Leadership Institute featured Ross Szabo, the Wellness Director at the Geffen Academy at UCLA who has shared his story on mental wellness with hundreds of organizations and campuses and is the author of the book Behind Happy Faces. His keynote helps reduce the stigma that surrounds mental health and empowers others to seek help and assist their peers.

Other Leadership Institute topics included David Westol, CEO of Limberlost Consulting, speaking about incidents that have affected the higher education landscape, particularly with regards to Greek Life, and trends we are seeing in the industry. We also had sessions reviewing our recently updated Risk Management Policy, new technology that we have, and will soon be launching to our members, and breakout sessions reviewing some best practices.

On Sunday evening our Awards Banquet had the honor of Morris Wolff, Gamma '58 as the keynote speaker to close our convention. Morris's life has been dedicated to philanthropic service: he worked with Robert Kennedy in writing the Civil Right Act, helped desegregate public schools in Alabama, successfully sued the Soviet Union for their imprisonment of Swedish Diplomat and war hero Raoul Wallenberg in US Federal Court. He has been recognized for his work by the United Nations, receiving the Humanitarian Award at Carnegie Hall in 1993. His keynote included stories of his life and how fraternity, and the love brothers have for one another, was such a crucial part of it.
