Statement on the Xi Chapter of Psi Upsilon

August 3, 2015

Psi Upsilon Fraternity has suspended all activities of its chapter at Wesleyan University, pending an investigation, after becoming aware that members may have been involved in illegal drug use.

On Friday, July 31, Psi Upsilon Fraternity was notified by the student affairs department at Wesleyan of allegations that multiple students at the University were involved with purchasing illegal drugs over graduation weekend, some of which are believed to be Psi Upsilon members. At that time the fraternity was also informed Wesleyan University has suspended the chapter’s program housing status for the 2015-16 academic year.

“We are disappointed to hear that Psi Upsilon members may have been involved in illegal drug activity and will hold an investigation into this issue to determine the truth of the allegations,” said Executive Director Thomas Fox. “Illegal drug use is unacceptable and not congruent with the values of our fraternity, and any members found guilty will be held accountable for their actions. Once we conclude our investigation into the matter we can better decide a direction for the chapter as a whole.”

Psi Upsilon’s Xi Chapter at Wesleyan University was chartered in 1843. Psi Upsilon Fraternity was founded in 1833 at Union College in Schenectady, NY and currently has 30 active chapters and colonies in the United States and Canada.
