Psi Philanthropy Event Benefits Veterans

From October 8 through 10, 2014 the Psi Chapter held its first philanthropy event of the year to benefit Clear Path for Veterans, an organization based in the Syracuse area that provides programs to aid America's war veterans with physical and mental injuries.

Named "Cornhole!" the event offered members of the Hamilton community a chance to win prizes by tossing a beanbag into a hole approximately 15 feet away. With almost all of the prizes donated by local businesses, items included free movie tickets, coupons, chipotle burritos, and others.

The event turned out to be a success raising a total of $2,302. The undergraduates raised $1,302 which the Psi Chapter's alumni association matched with another $1,000.

Tau Shares Haiku at Local Farmers Market

H. John Henry, Tau '55 (University of Pennsylvania)has become a fixture at the Collingswood Farmers Market, sports a "FREE Haiku & Limericks" sign on his hat.

Henry offers people individual haiku on little cards he makes by cutting up cereal boxes. Henry says he began writing poetry in the form of love verses to girlfriends after his divorce from his first wife. Haiku became a favorite about 25 years ago.

He likes the idea of speaking volumes with concision and precision. Readers also seem to like it.

"I watch him interact with people, and there's always a sense of discovery and joy and total surprise," says David Hodges, director of the Collingswood Farmers Market.

But wait, there’s more…

Tom has been so impressed by the outpouring of support that he has agreed to do it AGAIN!
