AlcoholEdu® for Parents

As part of its effort to prevent or reduce alcohol-related problems among its members, Psi Upsilon makes AlcoholEdu® available to every undergraduate in every chapter. The program is now available to parents and chapter advisors.

Parents play a pivotal role in influencing the decisions their college students make about drinking. This online program can help parents initiate and sustain the important conversations they need to have with their college-aged children.

AlcoholEdu® for Parents, working with AlcoholEdu® for College, provides non-opinionated information, key facts and important resources that will help parents with discussions that can impact the decisions their students make.

AlcoholEdu® for Parents includes:

  • Parent-specific introduction. Helps parents understand the important role they play in shaping their college student's decisions about alcohol.

  • Overview of key concepts. The program explains the concept of Population-Level Prevention®, including how it helps counteract the College Effect. The program also reviews the AlcoholEdu® for College course content and outlines the course structure.

  • Direct access to AlcoholEdu® for College. The program provides access to AlcoholEdu® for College in an easy-to-use format that allows parents to review the video segments, science-based content and interactive exercises throughout the program.

  • Helpful resources to promote conversations. Provides suggestions to parents on how to talk to their college student about alcohol, as well as fact sheets on alcohol's effect on the brain, how alcohol impairs learning and memory, and more.
