A Penny for Your Thoughts at the Xi
Xi Chapter (Wesleyan University)
On Wednesday, February 18, the Xi chapter at Wesleyan University hosted its second annual “A Penny for Your Thoughts” event, bringing in four Wesleyan University students to share their stories and interests with a large audience. The event was in part a fundraiser for the MacDonough Elementary School in Middletown.

"A Penny For Your Thoughts" allows students to speak about personal experiences, academic endeavors, or other things they are passionate about. The program provides a platform for students to share their work in the form of short TED talks.

The chapter recently created a website to archive past presentations. The mission of the program is: “We believe that everybody has a story and that there is something to be learned from every experience.”

Sigma Phi Alumnus Opens Craft Distillery
Jared Adkins, Sigma Phi '08
Jared Adkins, Sigma Phi '08 (St. Francis), a founding father of his chapter, recently opened Bluebird Distilling in Phoenixville, PA.

“The first year was absolutely crazy,” Adkins said. “There’s really something new every single day. I’m still trying to figure out the industry as a whole. It went from learning to make the spirits and make a good quality product, to all of sudden I’m learning how to run a bar ...”

“Distilling was kind of a natural evolution,” he said of the craft industry that began with local wineries 10-15 years ago and continued through craft brewers. “I feel like it’s mostly people opening their palates. I tend to see the people who actually like craft beer are more open to trying whiskey and spirits and something new down the avenue.”
