Each year the Psi Upsilon Convention presents awards to chapters for special programs, philanthropy, service, and academic achievements. At the 174th Convention 13 chapters were recognized for their efforts during the 2016-17 academic year.

The Lambda Sigma Chapter at Pepperdine University led the way and was granted the Diamond Award for Exceptional Chapters. This year they raised over $100,000, creating an endowed scholarship at Pepperdine for Cameron Johnson ’19 who passed away last year. In addition, the chapter averaged 37.9 service hours per brother, more than any other chapter of Psi Upsilon and also was academically ranked the top fraternity at Pepperdine in the Fall. The Lambda Sigma Chapter also received the Award of Distinction, the Garnet and Gold Award for Academic Excellence, and the Clasped Hand Award for Philanthropy and Service.

Other standouts that received the Award of Distinction were the Tau Chapter at the University of Pennsylvania, the Upsilon Chapter at the University of Rochester, and the Phi Nu chapter at Christopher Newport University. The Tau chapter was the first, and only, fraternity to achieve gold status in the new accreditation program at University of Pennsylvania. The Upsilon Chapter, which also received the Owl Award for Exceptional Academic Performance, had one third of the chapter achieving Dean’s List or the All-Liberty Academic Team for the year. The Phi Nu chapter also won the Clasped Hand Award for Outstanding Philanthropy and Service by giving back to the community through their “Friends of Phi Nu” mentoring program for a local elementary school.
