How Can I Contribute?
Contributions to The Psi Upsilon Foundation, a 501(c)(3) educational foundation, are deductible to the maximum extent pertmitted by law. The Foundation supports educational programs like the Archons' Academy and Leadership Institute and provides scholarships for those who have demonstrated moral, intellectual and social excellence in their chapters and communities. Potential donors should be aware of the various ways to contribute to the Foundation: Cash: Most of the gifts made to the Foundation are in the form of cash through a check written by the donor. An outright gift of cash is fully deductible for U.S. federal income tax purposes, as allowed by law. American Express, Mastercard, Visa, & Discover: Making contributions by using a credit card has become a very popular method of contribution. These gifts are considered the same as a cash gift for tax purposes. Gifts may be phoned in directly by calling the Foundation at 800-394-1833 or you may make an on-line gift. Securities/stocks: Gifts of stocks and securities offer a two-fold tax savings. First, the donor avoids paying any tax on the increase in value of the stock since its purchase. Second, the donor receives a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock at the time of the gift. Contact the Foundation for instructions on how to transfer apperciated stock. Wills: Making a provision for Psi Upsilon in your will is a simple process and can be done at the time of creation or as an addition to an existing will. It will also qualify you as a member of The Schoepflin Society recognition club. The Schoepflin Society recognizes members and friends who have made a planned gift to the Psi Upsilon Foundation. Brother Schoepflin's bequest resulted in a gift of more than $700,000 to the Foundation, the largest contribution to date. Those who have indicated their estate plans include a bequest to The Psi Upsilon Foundation have signed a statement of such intent, and have filed a copy of the relevant portion of their estate document with the Foundation. Planned gifts: A variety of trust and other estate planning devices exist which provide you with several tax benefits, as well as opportunities to receive investment income for the remainder of your life. The Foundation has a specific brochure available on planned giving for those interested in this special giving opportunity. The Legacy, Psi Upsilon's planned giving newsletter, is mailed to donors three times each year. Matching gifts: Many corporations provide charitable matching gift programs for their employees. This is an easy way to double or triple the impact of your annual gift. The Psi Upsilon Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable educational foundation and is eligible for many corporate giving programs. Funding a scholarship endowment: The Foundation's long-range plan calls for significant permanent scholarship funding to come from endowment gifts. Through an endowment, the gift is invested and only the interest income is used to support the scholarship. The principal is never expended so the fund and the resulting scholarships remain in perpetuity. The donor may name the endowment and fund it with an outright gift of cash, appreciated securities, or through a bequest in the donor's will. Annual Fund Giving Levels
