Fraternity Members See Advanced Personal Growth

A recent study set out to determine the impact of fraternity membership on student growth and performance. The study established that fraternity members see advanced personal growth more rapidly than other students. The sooner one joins, the more growth one sees.

Independent research compiled by the University Learning Outcomes Assessment (UniLOA), focused on seven areas of behavior regarded as "most critical" by employers, academics, managers, and researchers. Those areas are critical thinking, self-awareness, communication, diversity, citizenship, membership and leadership, and relationships.

The data clearly shows that fraternity members scored higher, and experienced higher net gains in growth over their academic lifespan, than the national mean of all students in each of the seven areas measured.

Cornell Deters Freshmen Partygoers with New App

Cornell University has created an iPod app that its fraternities and sororities use in checking IDs at parties.

Freshmen have been prohibited from attending fraternity parties this year. Fraternities are required to borrow a card scanner and iPod with ID Card Scan for all registered social events. The scanner displays the student's name, class year and whether or not they are 21 years old.

Chi archon Oliver English, '12 is quoted in the Cornell Daily Sun about the new scanning system.

Sigma Phi brothers celebrate a founding father's wedding

Sigma Phi brothers celebrate the wedding of Dan Domenick, '08.

Brothers from the Sigma Phi Chapter (St. Francis University) gathered this summer to celebrate the wedding of one of their founding fathers, Dan Domenick '08.

Of his Psi U experience, Dan said:
"I can't think of anything more memorable during my time at St. Francis. Having the Omicron guys visit SFU to celebrate our formal installation as a Psi U chapter was awesome.

I'm especially proud of our achievements as a chapter, given that we reside on what is admittedly not a very Greek-friendly campus at SFU.

At first the process of founding a new chapter seemed like it would take forever, but it was work well worth it. What started as a group of guys who lived in the same dorm during our freshman year has now become the largest fraternity on St. Francis's campus."
