Adam Weisman, Theta Theta '81 with his MINI-E |
Brother Adam Weisman, Theta Theta '81 (UWashington) is test driving the electric version of the MINI Cooper. He reports that his MINI goes up to 95 mph and has a range of about 100 miles per charge. Many pioneers share charging stations, which permits extended journeys. His experience is being tracked by a University of California-Davis Transportation study. The study results were presented at the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark earlier this month. He writes: "Currently, I am up to 3400 miles and have limited most of my miles to urban Los Angeles with one adventure to Lake Arrowhead to spend a weekend with fellow brothers, James M. Lane, Theta Theta '85 (editor, Biofuels Digest) and Gregory Thompson, Theta Theta '83 (television comedy writer). It challenged the charging range with the help of the UCLA Conference Center at the Lake that charges all their support vehicles." If there are any Psi U members in the NJ/NY area that have taken the challenge of MINI-E pioneering, Adam would love to hear from you.. |

Peggotty Gilson and Peter Gilson, Sigma '62, Laurie Davis and Phillips Davis, Sigma '62 |
It was a dark and stormy night....filled with laughter and music as the 9th Annual Sigma Old Guard reunited at the Hope Club on Brown University's campus. Organizer John Cobb, Sigma '55 (Brown University) welcomed the crowd with songs and jokes. The three piece band kept the music lively and festive, just as they had done 50 years prior at Sigma parties. The bonds of friendship were evident among the fifty brothers and friends that gathered with plans already underway for next year's 10th annual event, to be held on November 6, 2010. |

Jeff Wayne and Gary Minarich, both from the Epsilon Nu class of 1988 (Michigan State) will be attempting to summit Africa's tallest mountain in January. At 19,340 feet, Mt. Kilimanjaro is truly the roof of Africa. They plan to forward photos and videos of their adventures for future postings. Why are they climbing? Read more about their motivation. After the 40 mile, seven day trek of Mt. Kilimanjaro, they plan to go on a three day safari in the Serengeti. This 15-day trek will be the trip of a lifetime and they are excited to share their experiences with Psi Upsilon members across the globe. Want to share your adventures? Send photos and stories to psiu@psiu.org |

Hans Schuler, Chi/Epsilon Nu '59 and Larry Schuler |
Hans Schuler, Chi/Epsilon Nu '59 (Cornell/Michigan State) is celebrating the 100 year anniversary of “Schuler’s Restaurant & Pub.” Despite its long history from its founding in 1909, Schuler has prided himself on being able to keep up with the changing times. Schuler has found a successful formula for business by combining the past and the present. The restaurant’s décor has an early 1900s feel, while the menu’s selections include modern fine dining items. |

John E. Simonds, Kappa '57, has published Waves from a Time-Zoned Brain, a 130-page anthology of mildly revealing anecdotal poems that revisit and reflect on life, family and other personal experiences of a retired Hawaii newspaper editor, Washington correspondent and still active distance runner. Available from AuthorHouse and other online book outlets, Waves... represents an effort by the author to recall and continue to learn, not only from the past but the world of today. The poetry is accessible but respectful to the craft and is offered in part as an incentive to others to explore verse as a challenging way of recapturing memories and insight from their own lives. |

The brothers of the Sigma Phi Chapter were recently seen walking around the St. Francis University campus in high heels. It wasn't because they all happened to lose their shoes, but was an effort to raise awareness regarding domestic violence. The brothers were given permission by their professors to speak briefly about their campaign in their classes that day. The event was applauded by the campus and local community, and they plan to repeat it in the future. |
